The Ultra Clippy plugs directly into any XLR recorder or interface with 12 to 48 volt phantom power. No computer, tablet or phone is required. The device must be capable of recording audio above the audible range, so it needs a sampling frequency of 96 kHz or above and also an audio frequency response suitable for your application.
The Ultra Clippy uses a sensitive MEMS surface mount microphone with smooth frequency response and good signal to noise ratio.
The graph in the images was made using a ribbon tweeter with limited and uneven frequency response. The signal was measured simultaneously with both the Ultra Clippy and Sennheiser MKH 8020 as a reference.
The microphone has multiple uses, including:
- Recording of bat calls, insects and rodents
- Recording and analysis of the high-frequency noises emitted by electronic equipment and engines
- Sound design
